There have been more than 20 different definitions of microinvasion in the literature (Marsden et al., 2006). In summary, the most recent and widely used is the FIGO classification (Kurman et al., 2014), which limits microinvasive disease to a depth of 5 mm and a width of 7 mm (stage IA1 limits the depth to 3 mm and stage IA2 to 5 mm).
